How do I register a new account?

Getting started

  • Go to the BuildingFiles® web application and click the "Sign Up" link. [insert screen shot]
  • If you received an email invitation to join a project you will be added into the project automatically when you sign in with your account as long as you registered your account with the same email address that received the invitation.

How do I manage my account settings?

Account Management

To access your account details, open the menu button ☰ in the top left corner of the header and go to “Account Settings”.

This menu allows you to create new projects, add, or change a phone number associated with your account, as well as change your password.

Adding your mobile phone number is used for security purposes. It will enable log in with Multi Factor Authentication (MFA) and is required for Project Owners.

If you happen to forget your password, you can reset it by using the “Forgot password” link under the login button.

How do I join other’s projects?

Joining Projects

Projects are invitation only. A project owner or manager within that project must invite you by your registered email address to a project.

Invitations expire after 1 week.

Once you sign into BuildingFiles® after receiving the invitation, you will be automatically joined as a member of that project.

You may leave a project at any time by clicking the leave button next to your membership details in the projects main page.

How do I create My own projects?

Creating Projects

You must first secure your account with SMS Mobile multi factor authentication.

Once your account has been secured contact support to receive a quote.

Once you're authorized to create projects you will be able to create your first project.

To create a new project, open the menu ☰ in the top left corner of the home page and got to “Account Settings”.

Select the “Make A New Project” button.

Type the desired Project Name and Project Address into the appropriate text boxes.

Your newly created project will now be in your Projects tab.

How can I make my account more secure?

Multi factor authentication (MFA)

Whenever you log into the BuildingFiles® application you will be prompted to verify your account by providing a one time use security code. Note: You should only have to enter a new code when you've signed out or your session expires.

By default, MFA codes are sent via eMail unless they have upgraded to use mobile phone SMS verification (text messaging). We strongly recommend upgrading to use your mobile phone to receive authentication codes.

To add Mobile MFA to your account, open the menu ☰ in the top left corner of the home page and go to “Account Settings”. Here you can add a mobile phone number to verify your account. Note: Text messaging rates and fees may apply depending on your cellular plan.

A SMS text message will be sent to the number you provided with instructions on how to verify your phone number.

From now on you will only receive MFA codes on your mobile phone.

What is the news feed?

Dashboard - Feed Tab

The News Feed is the first tab screen on your dashboard you will see when you login or choose Home in the main menu ☰.

The News Feed shows all recent activity (new or updated) that occurs for all your projects within the last 30 days displaying most recent to oldest. Any files recently uploaded, deleted, edited information, or if users have joined or left a project are examples of activity on the News Feed.

When selecting a feed tile, you will be directed to that projects home page.

You can then view the projects news feed and open a specific topic to reply to or leave a comment.

When you add a user to a project, they will automatically follow the project and have its posts shown in their news feed.

Users can unfollow a project without leaving the project by using the unfollow button on the projects main page.

Any comments added will bring the activity to the top of the news feed. The project owner as well as any users who have previously commented on a that topic will receive an email notification that the topic has received a new comment.

How do I find my projects?

Dashboard – Projects Tab

To access the project tab of the dashboard, open the menu ☰ and choose “Home”, then choose the “Projects” tab at the bottom center of the screen.

This screen will display all the projects you are a member of as tiles. Each shows the projects picture, name, address, who the project owner is, date of creation, as well as the most up-to-date news feed activity for that project.

Selecting a tile will open a project and allow you access to the project’s tabs and controls.

To exit a project and return to your dashboard, open the menu ☰ and choose “Home”.

How do I bookmark a project?

Dashboard – Bookmarks Tab

To access the Bookmarks tab on your dashboard, open the menu ☰ and choose “Home”, then choose the “Bookmarks” tab located on the bottom right of the screen.

Bookmarks is a useful accessibility tool for quick and easy navigation. You can Bookmark any current projects you are working on to access them quickly.

To bookmark a project, enter the desired project, and select the “Bookmark” button on the projects main screen.

Once a project is bookmarked, click the “Bookmarks” tab on the bottom right of the dashboard screen to located it.

There are no limits to using bookmarks, you may bookmark as many or as few projects as you would like or need.

To remove a project from your bookmarks, enter the project and use the “Unbookmark” button.

How do you manage project files?

File Management

To access a projects file manager, enter the project and choose the “Files” tab in the bottom tab bar.

The file management section of BuildingFiles® is where you can upload, download, view, share, and use our file data matrix for all your building documents and information.

You may upload any type of file, however, potentially dangerous files such as .exe or .msi files may be restricted.

At the bottom of the file manager, you will see a panel containing the tools to use the file management system.

Depending on your role within a project, Owner, Manager, or User, selective tools may not be visible.

The “Upload” button allows you to send files to the current folder you are viewing.

The “New Folder” button allows you to create a new sub folder in the current folder you are viewing.

The “Download” button (only visible on PC) allows you to select by checking any files you wish to download. If multiple files are selected, a zip file will be created and downloaded when you use the button. Single files will be downloaded and not be compressed into a zip file.

The “Share” button (NOT visible on PC) allows you to select by checking any files you wish to share. The sharing dialog on your device will open and allow you to send, share, or transfer files to other devices and applications easily. If multiple files are selected, a zip file will be created and downloaded when you use the button. Single files will be downloaded and not be compressed into a zip file.

The “Email Files” button allows you to select the checkbox next to any files and send a temporary download link to one or more email addresses.

The “Rename” button allows you to select by checking any files you wish to rename.

The “Delete” button allows you to select by checking any files you wish to delete. Use this function to permanently erase your files. Note: You will have to type the word DELETE to confirm this action and complete the process.

The “Move” button allows you to select by checking any files you wish to move. When you use this button, the selected files are “Cut” from their current folder. Navigate to the desired location you wish to “Paste” and use the “Move” button a second time to transfer the files into their new directory.

The “Headers” button allows you to create new columns of matrix information within the file manager. See “File Matrix” for more information.

There are permission levels available within the file room that will restrict access to specific users based off of their predetermined user level:

  • Regular users can upload, create new folders, download, and email. They are restricted from deleting, moving files, making headers, and editing file names.
  • Managers and owners have full access to all tools.

How to add meta data to my BuildingFiles®?

The File Matrix

Creating headers allows you to add customizable information within the file matrix.

A textbox is located in the header screen where you can name your created header.

Once you create a header, the “Add Header” button will still appear and allow you to add a second header if you wish. You can add as many headers as you would like.

The “Save Headers” button will save your newly created information.

To remove a header, simply erase the text in the box and leave it empty.

To return to the file screen, select the text underneath the save headers button.

Once back on the file screen you will see your newly created header columns.

To edit the information within the headers, select and hold the desired box until a text box appears where you can edit the information and click submit.

Managers and owners can create and edit the file matrix while regular users can only view it.

How do I embed files and photos into a plan?

ImbedIt: Embedded plan editor

The embedded section allows you to upload 360 pictures, photos, documents, and any other file type to points on a plan.

To access the embedded section, select the “ImbedIt” tab in the project tab bar at the bottom of the screen.

The plan list screen contains all embedded “ImbedIt” plans for a project grouped by plan types. Select a plan type button to expand and access the files in that section.

To create a new plan, first enter a “Floor Plan Name”, then a new type name in the “Create A New Plan Type” text box to organize it by. You can alternatively select an already created plan type if one exists. Then click the “Creating Plan” button.

Your newly created plan can be found under the appropriate type below.

Once inside the plan, first upload a background. Use the ”Upload A Background” button in the middle of the screen to browse for an image file to upload. Note: Only common image file formats will be accepted for the background. (jpg, png, etc.)

You can change the background image in the “Edit > Settings” dialog. Existing point placement may shift or change positions if the new image is not the same resolution as the original.

Once your background is complete, your next step is to add points. Select the “Edit” button at the bottom of the plan viewer. Then use the “+Point” button to add a new point to the background. The new point will appear to the upper left of the plan. Selecting it will highlight the point allowing you to drag it to the desired location. You can create as many points as you would like by selecting the “+Point” button and repeating the process again.

Below are tools you can use to customize your point:

  • Highlight the point you wish to customize and open the “Settings” dialog.
  • In the “Point Color” box you can change the color of the point by typing in the desired color. Standard color names (Red, Blue, Salmon, etc.) or RGB hex codes (#00FFAA) are supported.
  • In the “Point Rotation” box you can rotate the point by typing in the desired degrees 0-360.Note: Some point icons appear to be angled by 45 despite actually being at 0 rotation.
  • If you would like the point to be text instead of a symbol, you can type the desired text by clicking “Set Point Text Box”.
  • To change the point from an arrow to a different symbol, open the “Select A Point Type” drop down menu and set the desired icon you wish to use.
  • Choosing the “Street-View” point type will convert it from a standard point to a point that will open a viewer for 360 photos. You will need to upload a single lens panoramic image for this type of point.
  • Select “Apply” to save your changes.

To upload information to a point, make sure the edit toolbar is collapsed, then select the desired point.

You now have entered the selected point. Use the upload button to browse for files to embed.

You can view or delete previously uploaded files from this screen as well.

Only project owners and managers can edit the embedded “ImbedIt” plans.

Embedded 360 photos

To embed 360 panoramic images, you must set the point type to “street-view”.

You can only have one 360 image per point.

When you enter the street-view point you will be prompted to upload a 360 image.

360 images must be .jpg files, and in the single fisheye lens format.

END USER LICENSE AGREEMENT

BuildingFiles® is licensed to You (End-User) by Innovative engineering services, llc, located and registered at 33 North Plains Industrial Road, Wallingford, Connecticut 06492, United States ("Licensor"), for use only under the terms of this License Agreement.

By downloading the Licensed Application from Apple's software distribution platform ("App Store") and Google's software distribution platform ("Play Store"), and any update thereto (as permitted by this License Agreement), You indicate that You agree to be bound by all of the terms and conditions of this License Agreement, and that You accept this License Agreement. App Store and Play Store are referred to in this License Agreement as "Services."

The parties of this License Agreement acknowledge that the Services are not a Party to this License Agreement and are not bound by any provisions or obligations with regard to the Licensed Application, such as warranty, liability, maintenance and support thereof. Innovative engineering services, llc, not the Services, is solely responsible for the Licensed Application and the content thereof.

This License Agreement may not provide for usage rules for the Licensed Application that are in conflict with the latest Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions and Google Play Terms of Service ("Usage Rules"). Innovative engineering services, llc acknowledges that it had the opportunity to review the Usage Rules and this License Agreement is not conflicting with them.

BuildingFiles® when purchased or downloaded through the Services, is licensed to You for use only under the terms of this License Agreement. The Licensor reserves all rights not expressly granted to You. BuildingFiles® is to be used on devices that operate with Apple's operating systems ("iOS" and "Mac OS") or Google's operating system("Android").

1. THE APPLICATION

BuildingFiles® ("Licensed Application") is a piece of software created to Facilitate online construction project photo, and document management. Using interactive floor plan embedding and advanced file management systems and customized for iOS and Android mobile devices ("Devices"). It is used to Online digital archiving of construction blueprints, and online project management for renovations and new construction.

The Licensed Application is not tailored to comply with industry-specific regulations (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA), etc.), so if your interactions would be subjected to such laws, you may not use this Licensed Application. You may not use the Licensed Application in a way that would violate the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA).

2. SCOPE OF LICENSE

2.1 You are given a non-transferable, non-exclusive, non-sublicensable license to install and use the Licensed Application on any Devices that You (End-User) own or control and as permitted by the Usage Rules, with the exception that such Licensed Application may be accessed and used by other accounts associated with You (End-User, The Purchaser) via Family Sharing or volume purchasing.

2.2 This license will also govern any updates of the Licensed Application provided by Licensor that replace, repair, and/or supplement the first Licensed Application, unless a separate license is provided for such update, in which case the terms of that new license will govern.

2.3 You may not share or make the Licensed Application available to third parties (unless to the degree allowed by the Usage Rules, and with Innovative engineering services, llc's prior written consent), sell, rent, lend, lease or otherwise redistribute the Licensed Application.

2.4 You may not reverse engineer, translate, disassemble, integrate, decompile, remove, modify, combine, create derivative works or updates of, adapt, or attempt to derive the source code of the Licensed Application, or any part thereof (except with Innovative engineering services, llc's prior written consent).

2.5 You may not copy (excluding when expressly authorized by this license and the Usage Rules) or alter the Licensed Application or portions thereof. You may create and store copies only on devices that You own or control for backup keeping under the terms of this license, the Usage Rules, and any other terms and conditions that apply to the device or software used. You may not remove any intellectual property notices. You acknowledge that no unauthorized third parties may gain access to these copies at any time. If you sell your Devices to a third party, you must remove the Licensed Application from the Devices before doing so.

2.6 Violations of theobligations mentioned above, as well as the attempt of such infringement, may be subject to prosecution and damages.

2.7 Licensor reserves the right to modify the terms and conditions of licensing.

2.8 Nothing in this license should be interpreted to restrict third-party terms. When using the Licensed Application, You must ensure that You comply with applicable third-party terms and conditions.

3. TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS

3.1 The Licensed Application requires a firmware version 1.0.0 or higher. Licensor recommends using the latest version of the firmware.

3.2 Licensor attempts to keep the Licensed Application updated so that it complies with modified/new versions of the firmware and new hardware. You are not granted rights to claim such an update.

3.3 You acknowledge that it is Your responsibility to confirm and determine that the app end-user device on which You intend to use the Licensed Application satisfies the technical specifications mentioned above.

3.4 Licensor reserves the right to modify the technical specifications as it sees appropriate at any time.

4. MAINTENANCE AND SUPPORT

4.1 The Licensor is solely responsible for providing any maintenance and support services for this Licensed Application. You can reach the Licensor at the email address listed in the App Store or Play Store Overview for this Licensed Application.

4.2 Innovative engineering services, llc and the End-User acknowledge that the Services have no obligation whatsoever to furnish any maintenance and support services with respect to the Licensed Application.

5. USER-GENERATED CONTRIBUTIONS

The Licensed Application may invite you to chat, contribute to, or participate in blogs, message boards, online forums, and other functionality, and may provide you with the opportunity to create, submit, post, display, transmit, perform, publish, distribute, or broadcast content and materials to us or in the Licensed Application, including but not limited to text, writings, video, audio, photographs, graphics, comments, suggestions, or personal information or other material (collectively, "Contributions"). Contributions may be viewable by other users of the Licensed Application and through third-party websites or applications. As such, any Contributions you transmit may be treated as non-confidential and non-proprietary. When you create or make available any Contributions, you thereby represent and warrant that:

1. The creation, distribution, transmission, public display, or performance, and the accessing, downloading, or copying of your Contributions do not and will not infringe the proprietary rights, including but not limited to the copyright, patent, trademark, trade secret, or moral rights of any third party.

2. You are the creator and owner of or have the necessary licenses, rights, consents, releases, and permissions to use and to authorize us, the Licensed Application, and other users of the Licensed Application to use your Contributions in any manner contemplated by the Licensed Application and this License Agreement.

3. You have the written consent, release, and/or permission of each and every identifiable individual person in your Contributions to use the name or likeness or each and every such identifiable individual person to enable inclusion and use of your Contributions in any manner contemplated by the Licensed Application and this License Agreement.

4. Your Contributions are not false, inaccurate, or misleading.

5. Your Contributions are not unsolicited or unauthorized advertising, promotional materials, pyramid schemes, chain letters, spam, mass mailings, or other forms of solicitation.

6. Your Contributions are not obscene, lewd, lascivious, filthy, violent, harassing, libelous, slanderous, or otherwise objectionable (as determined by us).

7. Your Contributions do not ridicule, mock, disparage, intimidate, or abuse anyone.

8. Your Contributions are not used to harass or threaten (in the legal sense of those terms) any other person and to promote violence against a specific person or class of people.

9. Your Contributions do not violate any applicable law, regulation, or rule.

10. Your Contributions do not violate the privacy or publicity rights of any third party.

11. Your Contributions do not violate any applicable law concerning child pornography, or otherwise intended to protect the health or well-being of minors.

12. Your Contributions do not include any offensive comments that are connected to race, national origin, gender, sexual preference, or physical handicap.

13. Your Contributions do not otherwise violate, or link to material that violates, any provision of this License Agreement, or any applicable law or regulation.

Any use of the Licensed Application in violation of the foregoing violates this License Agreement and may result in, among other things, termination or suspension of your rights to use the Licensed Application.

6. CONTRIBUTION LICENSE

By posting your Contributions to any part of the Licensed Application or making Contributions accessible to the Licensed Application by linking your account from the Licensed Application to any of your social networking accounts, you automatically grant, and you represent and warrant that you have the right to grant, to us an unrestricted, unlimited, irrevocable, perpetual, non-exclusive, transferable, royalty-free, fully-paid, worldwide right, and license to host, use copy, reproduce, disclose, sell, resell, publish, broad cast, retitle, archive, store, cache, publicly display, reformat, translate, transmit, excerpt (in whole or in part), and distribute such Contributions (including, without limitation, your image and voice) for any purpose, commercial advertising, or otherwise, and to prepare derivative works of, or incorporate in other works, such as Contributions, and grant and authorize sublicenses of the foregoing. The use and distribution may occur in any media formats and through any media channels.

This license will apply to any form, media, or technology now known or hereafter developed, and includes our use of your name, company name, and franchise name, as applicable, and any of the trademarks, service marks, trade names, logos, and personal and commercial images you provide. You waive all moral rights in your Contributions, and you warrant that moral rights have not otherwise been asserted in your Contributions.

We do not assert any ownership over your Contributions. You retain full ownership of all of your Contributions and any intellectual property rights or other proprietary rights associated with your Contributions. We are not liable for any statements or representations in your Contributions provided by you in any area in the Licensed Application. You are solely responsible for your Contributions to the Licensed Application and you expressly agree to exonerate us from any and all responsibility and to refrain from any legal action against us regarding your Contributions.

We have the right, in our sole and absolute discretion, (1) to edit, redact, or otherwise change any Contributions; (2) to recategorize any Contributions to place them in more appropriate locations in the Licensed Application; and (3) to prescreen or delete any Contributions at any time and for any reason, without notice. We have no obligation to monitor your Contributions.

7. LIABILITY

7.1 Licensor's responsibility in the case of violation of obligations and tort shall be limited to intent and gross negligence. Only in case of a breach of essential contractual duties (cardinal obligations), Licensor shall also be liable in case of slight negligence. In any case, liability shall be limited to the foreseeable, contractually typical damages. The limitation mentioned above does not apply to injuries to life, limb, or health.

7.2 Licensor takes no accountability or responsibility for any damages caused due to a breach of duties according to Section 2 of this License Agreement. To avoid data loss, You are required to make use of backup functions of the Licensed Application to the extent allowed by applicable third-party terms and conditions of use. You are aware that in case of alterations or manipulations of the Licensed Application, You will not have access to the Licensed Application.

8. WARRANTY

8.1 Licensor warrants that the Licensed Application is free of spyware, trojan horses, viruses, or any other malware at the time of Your download. Licensor warrants that the Licensed Application works as described in the user documentation.

8.2 No warranty is provided for the Licensed Application that is not executable on the device, that has been unauthorizedly modified, handled inappropriately or culpably, combined or installed with inappropriate hardware or software, used with inappropriate accessories, regardless if by Yourself or by third parties, or if there are any other reasons outside of Innovative engineering services, llc's sphere of influence that affect the executability of the Licensed Application.

8.3 You are required to inspect the Licensed Application immediately after installing it and notify Innovative engineering services, llc about issues discovered without delay by email provided in Product Claims. The defect report will be taken into consideration and further investigated if it has been emailed within a period of thirty (30) days after discovery.

8.4 If we confirm that the Licensed Application is defective, Innovative engineering services, llc reserves a choice to remedy the situation either by means of solving the defect or substitute delivery.

8.5 In the event of any failure of the Licensed Application to conform to any applicable warranty, You may notify the Services Store Operator, and Your Licensed Application purchase price will be refunded to You. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the Services Store Operator will have no other warranty obligation whatsoever with respect to the Licensed Application, and any other losses, claims, damages, liabilities, expenses, and costs attributable to any negligence to adhere to any warranty.

8.6 If the user is an entrepreneur, any claim based on faults expires after a statutory period of limitation amounting to twelve (12) months after the Licensed Application was made available to the user. The statutory periods of limitation given by law apply for users who are consumers.

9. PRODUCT CLAIMS

Innovative engineering services, llc and the End-User acknowledge that Innovative engineering services, llc, and not the Services, is responsible for addressing any claims of the End-User or any third party relating to the Licensed Application or the End-User's possession and/or use of that Licensed Application, including, but not limited to:

(i) product liability claims;

(ii) any claim that the Licensed Application fails to conform to any applicable legal or regulatory requirement; and

(iii) claims arising under consumer protection, privacy, or similar legislation, including in connection with Your Licensed Application's use of the HealthKit and HomeKit.

10. LEGAL COMPLIANCE

You represent and warrant that You are not located in a country that is subject to a US Government embargo, or that has been designated by the US Government as a "terrorist supporting" country; and that You are not listed on any US Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.

12. TERMINATION

The license is valid until terminated by Innovative engineering services, llc or by You. Your rights under this license will terminate automatically and without notice from Innovative engineering services, llc if You fail to adhere to any term(s) of this license. Upon License termination, You shall stop all use of the Licensed Application, and destroy all copies, full or partial, of the Licensed Application.

13. THIRD-PARTY TERMS OF AGREEMENTS AND BENEFICIARY

Innovative engineering services, llc represents and warrants that Innovative engineering services, llc will comply with applicable third-party terms of agreement when using Licensed Application.

In Accordance with Section 9 of the "Instructions for Minimum Terms of Developer's End-User License Agreement," both Apple and Google and their subsidiaries shall be third-party beneficiaries of this End User License Agreement and upon Your acceptance of the terms and conditions of this License Agreement, both Apple and Google will have the right (and will be deemed to have accepted the right) to enforce this End User License Agreement against You as a third-party beneficiary thereof.

14. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS

Innovative engineering services, llc and the End-User acknowledge that, in the event of any third-party claim that the Licensed Application or the End-User's possession and use of that Licensed Application infringes on the third party's intellectual property rights, Innovative engineering services, llc, and not the Services, will be solely responsible for the investigation, defense, settlement, and discharge or any such intellectual property infringement claims.

15. APPLICABLE LAW

This License Agreement is governed by the laws of the State of Connecticut excluding its conflicts of law rules.

16. MISCELLANEOUS

16.1 If any of the terms of this agreement should be or become invalid, the validity of the remaining provisions shall not be affected. Invalid terms will be replaced by valid ones formulated in a way that will achieve the primary purpose.

16.2 Collateral agreements, changes and amendments are only valid if laid down in writing. The preceding clause can only be waived in writing.
